On March 14, 2008, the grand opening of the DCMA Collective flagship store in West Hollywood served as more than just a retail launch. Founders Joel and Benji Madden used the high-profile event to partner with RCause.org, a pioneering non-profit founded by brothers Blake and Jeremy Pollock. Among the celebrities lending their support to the cause was Miriam McDonald (Emma Nelson), representing the international cast of “Degrassi: The Next Generation.”

RCause.org, known as “The Site That Gives,” was built on a “click-to-give” model designed specifically for young people who wanted to support charities without a financial barrier. By simply visiting the RCause homepage, users triggered donations from corporate sponsors to a monthly rotating charity, such as the Foundation Fighting Blindness or Cystic Fibrosis research. During the DCMA event, Miriam McDonald joined the Madden brothers in signing limited-edition shirts and promoting the “Supporting each other, one click at a time” mission.

The platform was a staple of the Venice Beach community, famously operating out of a “Beach House” location where they hosted daily raffles and cash prizes for participants in their digital donation drives. McDonald’s involvement highlighted the Degrassi cast’s active engagement with emerging 2000s-era digital philanthropy and the West Coast celebrity circuit.

While the physical DCMA storefront and the RCause.org website are now defunct, McDonald’s attendance remains a well-documented moment in the series’ archival history. Her arrival was captured by major photo agencies including WireImage, BEI, and the Everett Collection, documenting her alongside attendees such as Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Pete Wentz.
