Well, first off, I must say that prom was a success! …however not without a few fashion hiccups. As I mentioned before, I was feeling major stress about “the dress.” So, I decided to take your advice and buy a special one for the occasion—easier said than done!
Since most stores have been cleaned out of my size (apparently many girls wear a size 8!) and I didn’t want to end up with the same dress as another student, I headed to a cool little vintage store called Stella Luna. The owner has a basement filled with dresses and despite the fact that my mom and I spent an hour perusing through racks of gowns, nothing was quite right.
I was disappointed but at the same time it made me realize the one I had was perfect. So, I decided to go on a shoe hunt. (Now let me tell you, size 10 feet are a PAIN! You look at the display shoes in a dainty size 6 and when you get them on they look like BOATS!)
Off I went to Nine West (which, by the way, has the most awesome shoes right now) and bought a pair of patent leather, sky-high heels. When I got home I realized the following equation:
Long legs + high heels + short poufy dress = fashion disaster!
So back I went (on the DAY OF prom, I might add) to N.W. to pick up these beautiful rounded-toe suede and patent shoes! I LOVE THEM! …And most importantly I was able to dance in them ALL night long!
I love to dress up—what girl doesn’t? I got another opportunity at the CTV Upfront Launch. With beautiful linen white pants and those new shoes I didn’t get to wear at prom, I arrived in style (CTV sent a private chauffeured limo).
When I arrived, I met up with my fellow cast members and we were escorted into a holding room. Now this was not just any holding room! In it were the stars of CTV’s hottest shows: Alex Trebek, The O.C.’s Kelly Rowan, several CSI hotties and news personalities.
CTV goes all out for this function! Every floor of the Hummingbird Centre had a different theme. One floor was Desperate Housewives-themed and even had Brie look-alikes walking around and serving pâté! Another floor was for Grey’s Anatomy and had hospital beds and cute guys in white coats with stethoscopes wandering around. It was QUITE an experience!
I’m about to meet up with a few friends to enjoy my new FAVOURITE food—sushi! A lot of people have a stigma about raw fish but it is totally unfounded. Sushi is so good for you, and with a little ginger and wasabi it tastes AMAZING! My favourite kind is the Dynamite roll, which is shrimp tempura sushi! YUM!
Hope you all are enjoying the sunshine! I can’t wait until my exams are done next week. Miriam and I have decided that we are going to go down to the beach as often as we can. I can’t wait to feel the sun on my back, the lake’s breeze and to play a little beach volleyball. What’s your favourite part about summer?
Here are a few of my summer faves:
- Ice cream trucks
- Hot dogs
- BBQs on warm summer nights—I LOVE the smell of meat sizzling on the grill
- Bike rides by the lake
- Outdoor concerts
- Water fights
- No worries other than remembering to turn over while tanning!
Until next time, I’ll be counting down the days until my summer break begins!
