Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Countdown: Lauren Collins & Jake Epstein

On April 3, 2004, Degrassi: The Next Generation stars Lauren Collins (Paige Michalchuk) and Jake Epstein (Craig Manning) appeared live during the countdown pre-show for the 17th Annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.

Interviewed by U-Pick Live hosts Jeff “Pick Boy” Sutphen and Candace Bailey at the Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, the pair represented the series as it continued to surge in popularity on The N.

Red Carpet Highlights

During the segment, the cast members discussed their excitement for the evening’s festivities. Epstein expressed hope to see American Idol personality William Hung and comedian Will Ferrell. When asked for a prediction on “Favorite Movie,” Epstein correctly predicted the winner would be Pixar’s Finding Nemo.

Season 4 Tease

The interview provided a significant teaser for the upcoming season of the show. When asked for a “scoop” on what was coming next for Degrassi, Lauren Collins offered a cryptic hint:

“Look out for some people from the past to come back and haunt us.”

While the U.S. broadcast was in the midst of Season 3 at the time of this interview, the comment appears to be an early reference to the production of Season 4. The “haunting” likely alludes to the return of the character Dean in the episode “Ghost in the Machine,” or potentially the return of Rick Murray, both of whom would drive the central conflicts of the fourth season.
